Book SUMMARY 2: Book 1:The Hunger Games: Suzanne Collins

 

   The Hunger Games is one of the best fantasy novels I have read yet. Once you start reading the novel you can't take your eyes off it. 👀

It is a story of a dystopia. Dystopia is a place or city in a very poor, starving and  devastating situation. It is a story of a country Panem in North America. There are 13 districts in Panem which are in great state of poverty. They are in control of so called Capital.

The powerful people of Capital use the people of each district as the means of entertainment. They organize the death reality television based show called the hunger games every year. Children's from 12 to 18 years of age are chosen to participate themselves as tribute to the hunger games and survive the death game. 😱😱

The winner of the hunger games are rewarded with enough wealth and riches for lifetime. They are provided with separate housing as well as the people of their districts are given feast or party for the celebration of the victory.😪😪

This story The Hunger Games covers the event lines of 74th Hunger Games. 
Each and every district has its own kind of strategy for survival and prevent themselves from starvation. They seldom eat. They never have enough to eat. They are forced to take relief funds from the Capital.😖😖 
Katniss Everdeen is a young girl of 16 from district 12, a district of coal mines. 
All the male members of the family in this district has to be involved in coal mines after the age of 18. Gale is Katniss's best friend. Since Gales eighteenth birthday is near his days of working in the coal mines are also getting nearer. Both of them are very good at hunting. They manage food in the home because of the hunts they make. They hunt together. Katniss is skilled with bow and arrow while Gale is very good at making snare traps. They even sell their hunts In the market and earn some money.🏹🏹

Every year there is a contest among the children of the 12 districts to participate in the hunger games. The Thirteenth district was completely demolished during the revolution called the Dark Days. The rebellion from  the district lead to it's extinction. District 13 was the district of nuclear weapons.☢️☢️

This is the game where you win only when you kill each and every one of your opponents. Be it your own friend of your own district.
It is very cruel to watch those young competitors to fight against themselves just for the entertainment of the so called the people of Capital.🥺🥺

Capital is very rich and technologically advanced that even if you look so ugly you can be transformed to a beautiful and dashing personality with the help of its advanced technology.👩‍💻👩‍💻👨‍🔬

During the reaping  a boy and a girl tribute are selected through a lottery system. 🎰🎰
Katniss has younger sister Primrose Everdeen. She is just 12 and has written her name in the lottery Just once. While Katniss and Gale have their name written for more number of times. The name in the lottery is written or kept  the same number of times you take help or relief from the Capital. Every time you take those help very time your name is written for the reaping. And the probability of being chosen in the Hunger Games becomes really high. Every boy and girl whose name is in the lottery wishes it's not them. Since Prim has her name written only once she is quite confident her name is not coming for the Hunger Games. Indeed, she is afraid for herself who has her name in the lottery a number of times.

During the reaping its Prim's name that is read out as a  girls tribute. Katniss goes forward as a substitute for her sister. Peeta Mellark is chosen as a boy tribute. Peeta happens to be secretly admiring Katniss from childhood. Katniss and Peeta have never known each other before the reaping.

Since the Hunger Games is a television based show they are interviewed and headed towards the Capital.Since the time their name is announced in the reaping they are faced by the cameras 24/7. They are given lavish rooms, luxurious foods to eat. Since  both of them have been living in a starving district they try to eat as much as they can actually eat. They actually eat a lot. They wear high profile dresses. They are given whatever they are wishing for.

Before the actual hunger games, there is held a training session for the tributes. They are given training on bow and arrow, camouflage, wire knots, rope knots, fighting and every skill required to survive and kill the opponents. 

During the official inauguration of Hunger Games, within minutes almost half of the tributes are already killed before reaching the cornucopia. Cornucopia is the place where there is abundant supply of food, weapons and other necessities to survive in the jungle. 
Luckily Katniss is able to hold a bag containing water bottles, medicines and some food and a sunglass. 
She is alone in the game while Peeta is ganged up with the strong team of district 1 and 2. She finds that the bow and arrow at which she is good at hunting is with the gang of Peeta. She decides to kill the owner of the bow and claim it for herself. She drops the beehive on top of them which leads to the instant death of two more tributes. The bees are genetically modified organisms and are made poisonous.

She allies with Rue ,a girl of same age as her sister. She tries to take care of her as her sister. Unfortunately she is also killed  by the other tributes. She then kills the killer of Rue and claims her first kill. She mourns for the death of Rue.

Meanwhile on the other side,Peeta survives through a technique of  camouflage. He covers himself in the wet mud and lies in the bank of the river. Peeta is severely wounded at the calf of his leg while trying to save Katniss from his own gang members.

Since the capital knows that Peeta loves Katniss they declare that there will be two winners from the same district just to see how desperately Katniss and Peeta try to save each other. 
Katniss manages to find Peeta and help him revive. She helps him boosts him up by encouraging him to go back home and meet their loved ones without starving. She fights against  remaining tributes for Peeta's medicine and health broth. Peeta is slowly recovering because of Katniss help. Towards the end, in order to make the game more suspicious the remaining tributes.

The two of them are attacked by mutants elephants or mammoths or some genetically modified giants. They somehow manage to protect each other killing the last remaining tribute.

Finally,only Peeta and Katniss remain when a girl accidentally eats the berries collected by Peeta and Katniss. It is then the capital announces again that there is change in the game conditions and only one tribute is to be announced as winner.

They both try to eat the poisoned berries together. They decide to not provide  the capital with any winner.. 
So Peeta and Katniss is rewarded as victors from district 12 of 74th Hunger Games. The first part of the book ends here.

Book Two:

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire 🔥🔥

The next series begins right after the arrival of Katniss and Peeta to District 12 not as tributes but as victors. 
After Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark return to District 12 following their victory in the 74th Hunger Games,President Snow visits Katniss and explains that her actions in the Games have inspired uprisings. He orders her to use the upcoming Victory Tour to convince people that her actions were out of love and not defiance against the Capitol.

President Snow gives initial warning to  her that her friends, family, and District 12 will otherwise suffer. But she is unsuccessful in not raising the voice against the capital. She indeed becomes more determined to raise her voice more.

During the tour, Katniss' mentor Haymitch Abernathy warns her that she and Peeta, as Victors like him, will now have to serve as mentors to future tributes and that their show of love will be forced to continue for the rest of their lives.

Peacekeepers enter District 12 to crack down on illegal activity, and Katniss's friend Gale is publicly whipped after attacking the Head Peacekeeper.

However, Haymitch, Peeta and Katniss use their influence as Hunger Games victors to save Gale from being executed and treats him by taking him to Katniss's mother. Gale is soon recovered with regular supervision.

He announces that the upcoming Hunger Games - the 75th overall and the third Quarter Quell - will involve tributes selected from previous victors, allowing him to dispose of almost all of them.

Katniss is devastated, knowing she will be forced to participate as she is the only living female Victor from District 12, and she devotes herself to ensuring Peeta survives. On Reaping Day, Haymitch's name is drawn, but Peeta immediately volunteers to take his place. In spite of all the efforts Katniss makes to not take back in the game Peeta is determined to join the games.

Haymitch reveals that the tributes are angry about being forced to return to the Games and will most likely attempt to stop it. 
For her pre-Games interview, Katniss wears a wedding dress, as ordered by Snow, but her stylist Cinna sets it to transform into a symbol of a mockingjay. Mockingjay is a symbol of revolution.

Peeta announces that he and Katniss, who had previously announced their engagement during their Victory Tour in an unsuccessful attempt to quell the Districts, are expecting a child. They say the audience of the capital that they are having a baby. Most the capital people are shocked and they try showing sympathy towards Katniss. Despite being pregnant she is one of the tributes to participate in the Hunger games.The citizens then protest for the Games to be stopped to no avail. Just before Katniss enters the arena, Cinna is severely beaten by Peacekeepers in front of her as punishment for his tampering with her dress and then dragged away. It's probably because Cinna supports Katniss against the capital and President Snow.

In the Games, Katniss allies with District 4 tributes Finnick Odair and the elderly Mags, his mentor. When the arena's forcefield shocks Peeta, stopping his heart, Finnick revives him. The group is then forced to flee from a poisonous fog; when Peeta cannot go on, Mags sacrifices herself so that Finnick can help him.

When mandrills attack, Peeta is saved by the unexpected sacrifice of a hiding tribute. The group escapes to the beach, where Finnick greets District 3's Wiress and Beetee and District 7's Johanna Mason. Wiress repeats the phrase "tick-tock", leading Katniss to realize that the arena is designed like a clock. Each hour has its own hazardous conditions.

Wiress's throat is slit by Gloss, one of the Careers. Gloss is then fatally shot by Katniss while Johanna kills his sister, Cashmere. Finnick is injured by another Career, and the Gamemakers spin the clock to disorient the tributes.

Beetee suggests luring the rest of the Careers to the wet beach and electrocuting them, which was how he himself previously won the Games. The group separates to prepare the trap. When Brutus and Enobaria emerge, Johanna cuts the tracker out of Katniss' arm and flees. Katniss finds an unconscious Beetee. Unable to recover Peeta, and hearing a cannon (Peeta killing Brutus), Katniss almost kills Finnick, thinking he betrayed them, but he reminds her to remember who the real enemy is. He says to fight against the major enemy who led them to this devastating situation.

Katniss attaches some wire to an arrow and shoots it into the arena's roof just as lightning strikes a nearby tree to which the wire is attached. The roof of the arena breaks and the lightning strike paralyzes Katniss and incapacitates Finnick. It also causes a power failure that brings down the dome and disables the security cameras, preventing the Capitol from observing the events.

Katniss awakens in a hovercraft with an unconscious Beetee. She finds Haymitch, Finnick, and Plutarch Heavensbee, the new head Gamemaker, who reveals himself to be a rebel against Snow. Katniss learns they are bound for District 13, the headquarters of the rebellion, and that half the tributes were recruited to help Katniss escape, as she is the symbol of the growing rebellion.

After further learning that Peeta and Johanna could not be rescued and are now captives in the Capital, Katniss furiously attacks Haymitch for not keeping his promise to protect Peeta, but is quickly sedated.

She awakens to find Gale by her side. He assures her that her family is safe, but also reveals that District 12 has been destroyed after Snow was made aware of the rebels' plot.
The second sequel of the book ends here.

Book 3:
The Hunger Games: Mocking jay

After being rescued from the destroyed arena in the 75th Hunger Games, tributes Katniss Everdeen, Beetee, and Finnick Odair are taken to District 13, a below-ground district isolated from Panem that has been uprising the rebellion.

Katniss is reunited with her mother and sister Prim and is introduced to President Coin, the rebel leader. Katniss is told that her arrow destroying the forcefield led to riots in over half the districts. So   District 13 joined  in the rebellion, which caused Snow to bomb District 12 as revenge.

Coin asks her to become the "Mockingjay"—a symbol of the rebellion—as part of a "hearts and minds" strategy. Katniss reluctantly agrees after seeing Peeta being manipulated on state television to quell the rebellion. She visits the ruins of District 12, her old house somehow untouched with white roses from President Snow inside.

Katniss meets her film team and is given Effie Trinket as a stylist and close friend, Gale, as a bodyguard. They go to District 8 where Katniss is filmed being saluted by dozens of wounded civilians at a hospital. Snow, seeing the footage, orders an airstrike at the hospital, killing everyone inside. The crew films Katniss and Gale shooting down two Capital hovercrafts and Katniss' rage-filled threat:
"If we burn, you burn with us."

District 7 revolts, shouting the same phrase and killing Peacekeepers.

Katniss and her team travel to District 12. Katniss is filmed singing "The Hanging Tree." millions of protesters in District 5, singing the same anthem. They launch the attack on power cables. The attack knocks out power, forcing the Capital to revert to secondary generators.

That night, Katniss watches Peeta being interviewed by Caesar Flickerman, the Games' former presenter, when Coin and Beetee hijack the signal to air a clip of Katniss. After seeing it, Peeta suddenly shouts a warning that the Capital is about to attack District 13.

Coin orders a mass evacuation into deep, underground shelters, and the facility survives the attack. Upon emerging, Katniss discovers the area littered with white roses; she concludes that this to inform her that whenever she condemns the Capital, they’ll torture Peeta in retaliation.

Coin dispatches an elite special-forces team to rescue Peeta and remaining victors Johanna Mason, Enobaria, and Annie Cresta from their prison. Beetee hijacks the Capitol's defense system with a "propo" narrated by Finnick to convince more districts to side with the rebellion.

Gale's team rescues the victors and escapes the Capital easily, indicating the Capital reduced its security on purpose.

When Katniss greets Peeta, he unexpectedly attacks and strangles her into unconsciousness before being knocked out by Boggs.

Katniss wakes up and is informed that Peeta has been "hijacked"—brainwashed into trying to kill her, which explains why the Capital allowed them to escape with him. Peeta is placed in solitary, while a serum is developed to reverse the hijacking effects.

Coin announces that the rebels' next objective is the Capital's principal military stronghold in District 2—now the only district remaining loyal to the Capitol. All the 13 districts are in rebellion against the Capital.

After being attacked by a brainwashed Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen joins an assaults in District 2. An angry civilian named Pugnax shoots her, but she is saved by her bulletproof Mockingjay suit. President Coin refuses to let Katniss join the "Star Squad", a group of rebels set to infiltrate the Capital, but Johanna offers to cover Katniss while she sneaks on board a helicopter on its way to the Star Squad. She meets up with the team, which includes Gale, a recently married Finnick, and Peeta, who is still not fully recovered.

Led by Boggs, the team makes their way to the Capitol, evading booby-trapped "pods" placed along the way with Boggs' holographic map (the "holo"). Boggs is fatally wounded by a pod and bestows the holo to Katniss before dying. The squad accidentally trigger another pod, releasing a flood of lethal black tar, and Peeta momentarily succumbs to his conditioning and attacks Katniss, killing Mitchell in the process. Most of the squad escapes, unbeknownst to the Capitol.

Katniss refuses to kill Peeta, but Gale states that he would kill him if needed. The Capitol broadcasts another message of Snow's denouncement of the rebellion, but the rebels hijack the air, and Coin gives an impassioned eulogy that rallies the rebels. Katniss and the Star Squad attempt to advance through the sewers but are caught on camera. They are ambushed by genetically engineered "mutts" that kill four squad members, including Finnick.

Snow invites Capitol citizens to take shelter at his mansion, forming a human shield. Katniss and Gale plan to sneak into Snow's mansion to assassinate him. On the way, a massive explosion disrupts their plan. In the confusion, Peacekeepers herd Capitol children toward the palace gates, when a hovercraft with a Capitol insignia bombs the crowd, causing mass casualties. As the rebel medics, including Katniss's sister Prim, tend to the injured, a second wave of bombs are dropped, killing Prim and knocking Katniss unconscious.

Katniss awakens, and Haymitch informs her the rebels have won because the senseless bombing turned the Capitol citizens against Snow. Katniss confronts Snow, who explains that Coin staged the bombing to turn the Peacekeepers against Snow. Katniss realizes Gale had suggested a similar strategy to her, and is stunned when Gale cannot deny his part in Prim's death.

Coin calls a meeting of the surviving Hunger Games victors, where she declares herself the interim President of Panem. She calls for a vote for a final Hunger Games, but instead using the children of Capitol leaders as revenge. Katniss votes yes, under the condition that she is able to execute Snow. At Snow's execution, Katniss kills Coin instead, which causes a riot of citizens to also kill Snow. Peeta stops Katniss from committing suicide and she is arrested. In captivity, Haymitch brings Katniss a letter from Plutarch assuring she will be pardoned, there will be no “last Hunger Games”, and she will be able to return to District 12.

 When she comes back home she screams at Buttercup that Prim is never coming back, before embracing the cat. She finds Peeta, who has fully recovered from his conditioning and is planting Primrose flowers in the garden. They receive a letter from Annie, Finnick's wife, telling them that her and Finnick's son has been born, that Katniss’ mother is still treating survivors and Gale was promoted to Captain. Commander Paylor is elected the new President of Panem.

Years later, Katniss and Peeta are now married. They play with their two children in a meadow. 

Their infant cries from a nightmare, and Katniss tells them her story about her time in the Games and stating that “There are much worse games to play”. 

The is how the book The Hunger Games trilogy ends.

I suppose there could have been a better ending after her killing of the President Coin. She should have been treated way better than she was being treated. She didn't deserved to be left alone in the new  house in District 12.However the final ending was somewhat  satisfying.
