TWILIGHT: STEPHANIE MEYER

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

RATINGS: 3/5
GENRE: Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction
AUTHOR: Stephanie Meyer
Date of Publication:5 October 2005

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Stephanie Meyer was born on December 24, 1973, in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. She is the second of six children to financial officer Stephen Morgan and Candy Morgan, a homemaker. Meyer was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1992, Meyer won a National Merit Scholarship, which helped fund her undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she received a BA in English Literature in 1997.

INTRODUCTION:

It is the first book in the Twilight series. It is a fictional fantasy novel that introduces seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan, who moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington. She is leaving her mom and is currently living with her dad. She is an introvert and a beautiful girl good at her studies. She falls in love with a handsome boy of seventeen Edward Cullen. Edward is a vampire of 107 years old in the body of a seventeen-year-old teen. It is a fictional drama with a fantastic image of a vampire in a non-fictional world of humans.

ANALYSIS:

I enjoyed the book more than the movie. It is a simple and candid love story of teenage couples. It is always very engaging the whole time till you finish the novel. It is full of suspense that makes this novel a lot more exciting. The disclosure of any suspicious event is so at an unbelievable time that pushes the readers to go forward.

What I engaged with the book is that the novel is written in a narrative structure depicting the voice the Bella. So the readers are only to know what Bella knows. If she knows anything about the town the readers are to know the same and not more than that. She is so naive and gullible but smart at the same time.

Where all the students of the high school do not suspect the Cullens, Bella is suspecting something fishy with their extremely rich personality and charm and wealth. I didn't get the characterization of Bella as well as Edward. Bella is so dumb and dependent and clumsy and awkward. She is always reluctant and reticent even though she's got a   huge number of so-called fans. Why???

And Edward is so a stalker. Just because he is handsome and hot and got a lot of admirers doesn't allow him to stalk and sneak into some girls bedroom at night. What's even more distressful is Bella finds it cute????? It's way too creepy, eerie and weird. I hated the Edward character to the point I hated everyone fictional in the novel.

Apart from that, it is admirable that Twilight is simply and yet beautifully written.  The descriptions of Forks and the description of the places are so well described you are vividly imagining the place in your mind. You become an invisible imposter to all the places she describes. You can feel the smell of the damp wet grass of Forks.

CRITICISM:

I did not get any influential or knowledgeable impact from the book. This book is entirely meant only for teens. The fiction, drama, suspense and romance are solely meant for teens and inappropriate for children below twelve and as well for adults. I didn't find the character Bella too engaging. She is either too innocent or too smart. She is so aware that there are adversaries ahead of her even though she risks her life. I find this too stupid to leave her friends and move on who is so rude and cold and strangers to all of the neighbourhood.

There's a term called a" vegetarian vampire". We have been told or so that vampires feed on blood. And blood may be of animals or humans. Vegetarian means feeding oneself with vegetables and vegetables alone. But the word is so misinterpreted here and you are to write the same in your papers you ought to be ready for a lot of comments.

MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:

I was initially tempted by the book because of the hype it received after the release of its first movie. And went on to read the book and not watch the movie which I found so worthwhile. I was subsequently aggrieved as it happened to be a conversation between the teen couples blended with the drama of vampire and human. I wished the book was over sooner to skip all those creepy romantic stuff of a vampire. If you are looking for motivational and life-changing advice and beneficiaries this is the worst book. It does not provide you with any knowledge of vampires or human behaviour. It is solely next level imagination.
I too read this book during my teens. All of my friends had either watched or read the story which proves this is the best book of the contemporary time for teens.
I too recommend this book for teens to build up a reading habit. This book is too engaging and captivating that you are sure not to close it until you finish it.

HAPPY READING 💕
