INTRODUCTION:
A Game of Thrones is the first novel in A Song of Ice and Fire. It is a series of fantasy novels by the American author George R. R. Martin.
The main theme of the A Game of Thrones is to introduce the seven kingdoms, the wall and the kingdom across the narrow sea. It introduces us to the King of the Seven Kingdoms and various houses owned by the seven kingdoms. In the North there is Winterfell owned by House Stark, in the east, there is Eyrie owned by House Arryn, in the west, there is Riverlands owned by House Tully and the south is owned by the Baratheon who is the King himself. But in fact, the south is surreptitiously under the House Lannisters.
These five are the major candidates for the throne from the seven kingdoms. Apart from these four houses several minor houses also are under the rule of the seven kingdoms. Though minor these houses play a major role in supporting one house or the other to claim the throne.
The former ruler of WESTEROS House Targareyen is destroyed completely sparing the lives of only two of the living Targareyens. A brother and a sister. They strive to save their lives from the ongoing, conflict in the Seven Kingdoms.
So apparently it is the story to claim that particular throne in the seven kingdoms along with which comes the power, prosperity, and name and fame.
ANALYSIS:
I was completely hooked up with the first novel in the series of A Song of Ice and Fire. The first quarter of the book is quite arduous to understand. It's because you are not accustomed to all those vocabulary or the various slang words used by the different houses. But as the story takes place you will be so eager to move on to the next page as swiftly as possible.
This book takes you by surprise each time you turn your page. The maverick, bold and challenging characters make you feel you are self-present in their act. You assume that they are your superheroes. The decisions and verdicts they present in such a predicament are so worth a million dollars.
The most beautiful thing in the whole novel is that it is unpredictable and the situation is so filled with shock, surprises and wonders.
The story plotline is set in the medieval era so the clothing of both men and women follow the same rule. This is the other thing that has made me attach to the novel so much. The tiaras, the jewellery, the gowns and attire, garbs of both princes and princesses lure you into their kingdom.
It is recharged with Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure and a world full of classic epic fantasy. It takes us from the land of the brutal cold of The Wall and The Winterfell to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean pleasure plenty of the South.
What makes it more interesting is it not the clash of the kings alone. The supporting characters play a significant role through a trivial part. It includes lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, lovers , wildlings, cheaters, ratchets and deceivers which brings more madness, enigma, suspense and excitement to turn over the next page. There is tragedy and victory, there is hatred and love, betrayal and reverence, allies and enemies and a lot more. It is perilous and heavenly at the same time.
CRITICISM:
Everything from this book is coherent, smooth and pleasant. Every time you turn a page a new revelation awaits you. There's no time to discuss why it's happened.
The only criticizable thing here is it exploits the image of women to a point where you think of stop reading. So to contradict I enjoyed the character of Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannisters the most. The boldness, the attitude and the way they take decisions, the politics they play is so extraordinary. They are unbreakable and undeniably strong and dominant in their own way. You must mark these three characters although others are not fragile either.
MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:
This book has to be one of the wonders of the realm of novels. It is incredible and perfect( not to that level of perfection though). The suspense and thriller, the characterization and plot, climax of each of the seven kingdoms lead your next level in the world of fantasy and fiction. bunch of nobles fighting over a throne.
It would have been much better if it did not derogate the image of women. They are tortured and mistreated to a point you are filled with rage. But the tomboy character of Arya just stands out. She might have been the reason for my sympathy to House Stark.
So that's it. It goes on and on if we pull it on and on. So it's better if we stop here and think of your favourite character from the novel.
HAPPY READINGπ
