INTRODUCTION:

Ikigai means to have a purpose in life. This book teaches us why is it essential to have a purpose and how to find a purpose in life.
It teaches us the how active people remain after they retire in Japan and tend to become a centenarian. In Japan, people keep doing what they love for as long as their health allows. There is no such word called retire or sedentary. They are always busy and moving which is why people have a longer life there. They have a proper lifestyle which doesn't include any exercise but its population constituting of more number of healthy residents. They are always happy and content. People are never idle.

The book is based on a total of one hundred interviews in Ogimi, Okinawa to try to understand the longevity secrets of centenarians and supercentenarians.

It is rather a shallow than a deeper dive into the “how” of ikigai. It does not dive deep into the very core of the topic, however, it’s more of an introduction to a variety of different topics including the Blue Zones, logotherapy, longevity, flow, tai chi, yoga, resilience, and more.

ANALYSIS:

This book is mainly focused on the psychological aspects of life to live for at least a century.  The mental workout which is to be performed for longevity is described based on real-life examples from people in Ogimi village in Okinawa, Japan.  It shows us the ways and tricks to do and not to do to live a longer life.

The simple daily life tricks which can be done so smoothly is taught in this book in a rather relevant way. It applies to all those readers who ought to have a change in their life in a positive way.

It is always necessary to have a bit of a sense of humour. Being stressed the whole time is not what you wish to have. So it is always necessary to cope with difficult life situations in the best humour possible.

The other good thing is Morita therapy. He explains the phases and stages of Morita therapy to a patient via various real-life case studies.

CRITICISM:

This book is way too short. Even the story of Okinawa is sporadic and is not detailed. It is so abruptly brief that you tend to find the story itself bland and tasteless.

Overall, this book attempted to offer some good advice, but it needed to expand more on the core focus of ikigai.

It seemed like a very superficial and incoherent attempt in trying to figure something out. The writers are not comprehensive enough to grasp the core philosophy in “Ikigai”. Even they’ve done their research, the overall insights are shallow and subjective. This makes the real story and core meaning of the novel more vapid.

MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:

This is a book to have a meaning to your life. It is a must-read if you are stressed about your current position in your job or completely unsatisfied about your lifestyle it is high time you need to give yourself time to read the book.
It is enough to boost you up to vigour and energy to a new and resourceful and purposeful beginning in your life.

HAPPY READING💕💞
